View from Appalachian Trail parking lot on east side of gap.
Canal ran in slack water under the bridge at the left edge of the view to pass through the narrow gap.
The CNJ railroad grade, still in use, runs between the highway and the river. On the far bank, the Lehigh Valley grade, now a rail trail also ran along the river edge. To the right of the telephone pole, the Lehigh & New England Railroad entered from right t6o a junction with one line going around the right mountain to Palmerton and the other bridging diagonally across the gap to a grade on the high far mountain. The Appalachian Trail descends both sides of the gap to cross the river on the highway bridge.
